Active fire protection covers systems that detect a fire, warn occupants or act to control it. We design, install and maintain fire alarm and detection systems, emergency lighting, VESDA early smoke detection and gas suppression, and provide waking watch services where a building needs them.
BS 5839-1, the code of practice for non-domestic premises, recommends inspection and servicing by a competent person every six months, and the 2025 edition allows one month either side of each date. Government fire safety guidance describes a monthly function test of each emergency light and an annual full discharge test, with a daily check of central controls where a central battery system is installed. BS 5266-1 and BS 5266-8 give the detailed recommendations. Results should be recorded in the logbook.
